Kaskade at Smart Bar, 10-4-2008

8 10 2008

Did you know that Chicago and Smart Bar have the pleasure of hosting the resident DJ of the year? That would be Kaskade, a Chicago son, who now calls San Francisco home. Kaskade, Ryan Raddon, comes to Chicago four to five times a year. The night is one of the most upbeat, but relaxed I have found in Chicago. Smart Bar extends it open arms in the air to all. No fancy halter tops or attitude, just great music and a bumping time.

This set, I was unfortunately, under the weather. I tried to hold up a column for a couple of hours, but had to leave early. Still i could not stop bopping my stuffy head. Kaskade was on fire. He had to cancel his album release party in August and was definitely trying to pull out all the stops. He dropped new beats from his recent collaborations with Deadmau5, a young Canadian how is turning dance music on it’s ear. He also spun some grand house classics. There never seems to be a good time to leave the dance floor when the maestro hits the decks. I have seen Kaskade spin well over a half dozen times. He doesn’t disappoint and he is accessible even to your dance music phobes. Put your sneaks on and catch the Resident DJ of the year in Chicago next time he pops in.

Next show: Dec. 6th (Early Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanza to all, and to all a dope night.) Cost: 12-15$ (bargain city). Time: Usually between 12:30 and 1:00 a.m.
