Twilight New Moon Soundtrack Revealed!

21 09 2009

twilight2215Yeah, I’m a vampire nerd.

Released 3 days later than anticipated – the Twighlight New Moon movie soundtrack track listing has finally arrived! Whether or not you’re into sappy love triangles between humans, werewolves, and vampires; you’re pretty much guaranteed to be into this soundtrack. It’s full of all kinds of indie goodness. In particular, I’m looking forward to hearing the offerings from Death Cab, Band of Skulls, Lykke Li, The Killers, Bon Iver, OK Go, Grizzly Bear, and Anya Marina. Soooo, basically most of the soundtrack.

The new video from Death Cab for Cutie, Grapevine Fires, is brilliant.  I grew up in the Pacific Northwest too, but also traveled I5 south down to LA frequently.  To get from central California to the south you have to go over a several thousand feet high pass, the Grapevine. If you have ever lived in California or have family who live there, this video will touch you in some way.

Life’s two greatest gifts are coffee and music. I am a big fan of Starbucks musical offerings. (Btw, they are still giving away free MP3s on Tuesdays.) Their new compilations of love songs are all covers. My favorite is Yellow by Jem. They also have a great version of the Yeah Yeah Yeah song Maps as interpreted by Rogue Wave. For you Death Cab fans they cover Love Song from the Cure. Go grab this and a black eye. If you can’t make it to Starbucks then it is also being offered on Itunes and Amazon.

Only superstar President-elect Barack Obama would be able to combine amazing political speeches with totally kick ass music to make the best DVD in the entire world (dare I say universe, even?).  Change is Now: Renewing America’s Promise, is Obama’s new CD-DVD set documenting the 2008 election.  The CD features music from will.i.am, Wilco, Death Cab For Cutie, Lenny Kravitz, Maroon 5, and more.  But that’s not all, the best part of the whole thing is the DVD that features a veritable “best of” Obama’s speeches.  Here’s the list (tell me you don’t get excited reading this and I will call you a liar right to your face):

“Announcement for President” – Feb. 10, 2007 – Springfield, IL
“Iowa Jefferson Jackson Dinner” – Nov. 10, 2007 – Des Moines, IA
“Iowa Caucus Victory Speech” – Jan. 3, 2008 – Des Moines, IA
“New Hampshire Primary Speech” – Jan. 8, 2008 – Nashua, NH
“A More Perfect Union” – Mar. 18, 2008 – Philadelphia, PA
“A World That Stands As One” – Jul. 24, 2008 – Berlin, Germany
“The American Promise” – Aug. 28, 2008 – Denver, CO
“Election Night Victory Speech” – Nov. 4, 2008 – Chicago, IL  (Editor’s note- I heard this live and in person.  Be jealous.)
